Founded in 1755, the area that is now Charlotte was settled by European colonists. Thomas Spratt, a descendent of U.S. President James K. Polk, built a house near the intersection of two Native American trading paths: one north-south along the Great Wagon Road, and the other east-west along Trade Street.
South Charlotte is home to several beautiful golf courses. Cedarwood Country Club is a top-rated course that offers a variety of tee boxes. Its stunning landscapes and panoramic views make this a popular golfing destination in the Charlotte area. It is also a great place to host a golf tournament or hang out with friends.
South Charlotte is also home to some of the city’s most prestigious schools and attractions. The University of North Carolina Charlotte is just outside downtown. Several Amtrak routes serve the area daily.
